Auto-Production Wind Turbine Project
Galetech provided project management and technical advisory services for the installation of a 3 MW Enercon E-101 wind turbine at the Janssen Pharmaceutical facility in Ringaskiddy, Cork.
The project was developed as a behind-the-meter renewable energy solution, enabling the client to generate clean electricity directly on-site to support its manufacturing operations. Surplus electricity generated by the turbine is exported to the grid through a REFIT PPA structure, providing additional commercial value.
Client
Janssen Pharmaceutical (Johnson & Johnson)
Capacity
3MW
Location
Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork, Ireland
Architect

Challenge
The project involved several technical and delivery challenges:
- Integrating a large-scale wind turbine within an operational pharmaceutical manufacturing site
- Coordinating civil, electrical, and turbine installation interfaces within a constrained industrial environment
- Managing grid connection requirements and export arrangements for surplus generation
Ensuring strict health, safety, and regulatory compliance during construction

Solution
Galetech implemented a structured project management approach to ensure successful delivery:
- Detailed wind resource and energy yield modelling to optimise turbine performance
- Strategic turbine procurement and contract support to ensure robust supplier selection
- Integrated BoP and turbine installation coordination to manage civil and electrical interfaces
- Comprehensive construction-phase management and safety oversight
- Alignment of grid export arrangements under the REFIT scheme

Outcome
- Successful installation of a 3 MW Enercon E-101 wind turbine at the Janssen facility
- Delivery of a behind-the-meter renewable energy solution supporting on-site electricity demand
- Surplus generation exported to the grid through a REFIT PPA arrangement
- Demonstrated capability to deliver renewable energy infrastructure within complex industrial environments
