Optigear, Powered by Galetech Group, successfully completed the sourcing, refurbishment, overhaul, and delivery preparation of a GE1.5 wind turbine drivetrain for a renewable energy customer. The project demonstrated Optigear’s full-service capability - from international asset sourcing through to tower-ready delivery and installation support.

The drivetrain, consisting of the gearbox and main shaft assembly, was sourced from Germany following turbine decommissioning. Challenge

Wind turbine drivetrain components operate under extreme mechanical loads and environmental conditions. Following decommissioning, the customer required a fully refurbished GE1.5 drivetrain, reliable component restoration to OEM-quality standards, safe transportation capability, and a turnkey solution reducing operational downtime.

The project demanded precision engineering, specialist refurbishment expertise, and logistics coordination across multiple countries.

Solution

Optigear sourced the drivetrain in Germany after turbine decommissioning. Prior to transport, the unit underwent detailed inspection to assess mechanical condition and refurbishment requirements.

Once approved, the drivetrain was transported to Optigear’s workshop facility in Dungiven, Northern Ireland for full overhaul operations.

Outcome

The completed GE1.5 drivetrain was successfully overhauled, prepared, and delivered ready for installation.
