Newcastle West - Education (Temporary Accommodation)

Challenge

The school required additional teaching accommodation at short notice to support growing enrolment and specialist education needs.

Key challenges included:
- Delivering new classrooms during the academic term
- Maintaining a safe, operational school environment throughout the works
- Managing site access and logistics within a live education setting
- Completing the works within a tight programme to avoid disruption to teaching schedules

Any solution needed to be fast, compliant, and sensitive to the needs of pupils, staff, and the wider school community.

Solution

Galetech proposed a modular prefabricated solution, enabling the majority of construction activities to be completed off-site while minimising on-site works.

Our scope included:
- Design coordination with the appointed architects
- Off-site manufacture of prefabricated classroom units
- Groundworks, foundations, and service connections
- Safe transportation, cranage, and installation on site
- Internal fit-out to meet Department of Education standards
- Full commissioning and handover

By combining off-site fabrication with carefully planned site works, Galetech reduced programme risk and ensured a controlled, safe installation process within an active school environment.

Outcome

The project was successfully delivered on programme, providing:
- Five high-quality, fully compliant teaching spaces
- Immediate additional capacity to support both mainstream and special education needs
- A safe, modern learning environment delivered with minimal disruption

The modular approach allowed the school to respond quickly to changing accommodation requirements while maintaining continuity of education throughout the construction period.
