Galetech is pleased to announce a strategic partnership with Skytree and Mwahera Green Hydrogen to support the development of the Mwangea e-fuels project in Kenya. The collaboration will bring together renewable energy expertise, innovative carbon capture technology and local project development capabilities to support the production of sustainable synthetic fuels.

The project represents an important step in exploring new opportunities for renewable energy and supporting the transition towards lower-carbon fuels for industries where emissions are particularly challenging to reduce.

Bringing Together Expertise to Deliver Innovative Energy Solutions

The partnership will integrate Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology into the proposed Mwangea e-fuels facility, enabling carbon dioxide (CO₂) to be captured directly from the atmosphere and combined with green hydrogen to produce synthetic fuels. Each partner will bring specialist knowledge and capabilities to the project. Galetech will lead project development activities, including permitting, stakeholder engagement and the integration of DAC technology into the e-fuels production facility.

Skytree will provide its proprietary Direct Air Capture technology, alongside engineering expertise to support efficient system integration and performance. Mwahera Green Hydrogen will act as the primary project company, overseeing regional development activities and on-site project execution in Kenya. By combining these complementary capabilities, the partnership aims to establish a practical and scalable approach to sustainable fuel production.

Harnessing Kenya's Renewable Energy Potential

Kenya offers significant opportunities for renewable energy development, with an electricity system supported by geothermal, hydro, wind and solar generation. The Mwangea project aims to build on these natural resources by using renewable energy to support green hydrogen production and carbon capture operations. Direct Air Capture technology extracts CO₂ from ambient air. When combined with green hydrogen, the captured carbon can be used to manufacture synthetic fuels, offering an alternative to conventional fossil-based fuels. This approach has the potential to support emissions reductions in hard-to-decarbonise sectors, including aviation, shipping and heavy-duty transport, where alternatives to conventional fossil fuels remain limited.

A Phased Approach to Project Development

The Mwangea project will follow a phased development approach, beginning with an initial deployment of Direct Air Capture technology. Technical and commercial performance will then be assessed before progressing towards larger-scale operations.

At full scale, the project is expected to have the potential to capture tens of thousands of tonnes of atmospheric CO₂ annually, providing a carbon source for e-fuel production. This measured approach will allow the project partners to assess performance, refine system integration and establish a foundation for future development.

Supporting the Global Energy Transition Through Collaboration

For Galetech, this partnership reflects our commitment to applying our renewable energy expertise to emerging technologies and international opportunities.

Our experience in renewable energy project development, engineering and stakeholder engagement provides a strong foundation for supporting complex energy infrastructure projects.

Working alongside Skytree and Mwahera Green Hydrogen, we look forward to contributing to the development of the Mwangea project and exploring the role that renewable energy and carbon capture technologies can play in sustainable fuel production.

Through collaboration, technical expertise and a shared commitment to sustainable development, Galetech continues to support innovative solutions for a cleaner energy future.
