The three essential components of e-fuel production are renewable electricity, water and carbon dioxide. The e-fuel process mimics the processes of nature, such as trees taking in sunlight, carbon dioxide and water. By converting CO2 from the atmosphere into a renewable e-Fuel we replace conventional fossil fuels thus helping reduce future CO2 levels in our atmosphere.

Why e-Fuels
e-Fuels - also known as electrofuels - are synthetic fuels produced using renewable energy, offering a carbon-neutral pathway to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
They are created through electrolysis, a process that uses renewable electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. The renewable hydrogen is then combined with captured CO₂ to form energy-dense hydrocarbons such as e-methanol, e-diesel, and e-kerosene.
These next-generation fuels are fully compatible with existing engines, fueling systems, and global energy infrastructure. This makes e-Fuels a powerful solution for sectors that are difficult to electrify, including aviation, shipping, and heavy-duty transport.
Ongoing advancements in electrolysis technologies and carbon capture are driving greater efficiency and cost reductions, bringing scalable e-Fuel production closer to commercial reality.
e-Fuels represent a critical bridge to a cleaner, more resilient energy future without requiring a complete overhaul of today’s transport systems.
The Market
The European Union has committed to a 55% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and achieving climate neutrality by 2050. In the aviation sector alone there are mandates for >0.7% e-Fuel in 2030 rising sharply to 35% e-Fuel by 2050.
Simply put, there’s an EU mandated demand for >500 million litres of e-Fuel in 2030 for just the aviation industry, with similar mandates in place for maritime and road transport.

Our Pathway
In Ireland, Galetech is launching a state-of-the-art, modular research facility designed for rapid deployment. This facility leverages our deep industry experience to unlock stranded renewable energy resources and bring innovative e-Fuel solutions to market.
The initial rollout will include a commercial-scale facility of up to 40 MW, capable of producing as much as 15 million litres of e-Fuel per year. This output represents roughly 10% of Ireland’s expected contribution to the EU’s 2030 mandate for synthetic aviation fuel.
In parallel, Galetech is advancing two major renewable energy projects in Kenya. The initial phase aims to harness 1 GW of combined solar and wind capacity within the next decade. This dual-region strategy reflects our long-term commitment to driving the adoption of e-Fuels, reducing global carbon emissions, and supporting sustainable economic development.
