Case Study: Mountain Lodge Sponsors Local Outside Classroom and Well Being space

Wind Farm:                  Mountain Lodge

Applicant:                    St Brigid's National School

Project:                        Outside Classroom / Well Being Area

St Brigid's National School are a mainstream primary school with 87 pupils on the roll. They have 4 mainstream teachers, 1 full time special educational teacher, 2 special needs assistants and 1 part-time secretary. As well as academic training and achievement, the school has as its philosophy the development of the pupils' aesthetic, physical, cultural, moral, social, emotional and spiritual life as its central priority.

They requested funding to develop an area at the rear of the school for an outdoor classroom / well being area. The benefit of this additional amenity was to enhance existing facilities

What is different in peoples’ lives as a result of this project?

“This outdoor classroom is giving our children a life long love of nature, hands on learning and physical activity that is hugely beneficial to them. It is allowing children and particularly children with extra sensory and special needs to explore with all their senses, foster a sense of inquiry and creativity, interact with nature as well as play, plant, explore, observe and discover. The children's true potential will blossom in this environment” 🐞🐝

What were the highlights of your project?

“We were thrilled with how the project has turned out, it has been a beautiful transformation of a waste piece of ground. Now that the grass has started to grow we are going to be able to add some outdoor toys and sensory equipment” 🌾

‘We would like to thank the Mountain Lodge Wind Farm Community Fund for their very generous funding towards stage one of the redevelopment of an area at the back of our school into an outdoor classroom / well being sensory garden and giving our school the opportunity to grow and develop’ -   Meabh Haughey, School Principal
