In County Cavan, we are progressing plans for a €20 million demonstration facility focused on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
Led by our CEO Darren Sherry, this project reflects a practical step forward in addressing one of the most complex challenges in the energy transition - decarbonising aviation.
Addressing a Hard-to-Abate Sector
Aviation remains one of the most difficult sectors to decarbonise.
Electrification is not yet viable for long-haul travel
Alternative propulsion technologies are still developing
Demand for air travel continues to grow
This creates a clear need for drop-in fuel solutions that work within existing infrastructure.
A Practical Approach to E-Fuels
Galetech’s focus is on electrofuels (e-fuels) - synthetic fuels produced using renewable electricity, water, and captured carbon dioxide.
These fuels:
Are compatible with existing aircraft engines
Can integrate into current fuel supply chains
Offer a pathway to reduce lifecycle emissions
The technology itself is well established. The challenge now is efficient, scalable delivery.

Building Capability Through Demonstration
The planned Cavan facility is a demonstration project, designed to:
Validate production processes
Build operational expertise
Support future scaling decisions
This aligns with Galetech’s broader approach - developing solutions within its circle of competence while delivering measurable outcomes .
Initial production volumes will be limited, but the objective is clear:
👉 gain real-world insight that informs long-term deployment.
Understanding the Economics
Early-stage e-fuel production remains cost-intensive.
Demonstration output is expected to be significantly above current market fuel prices
Long-term viability depends on improving efficiency and scale
This is not a short-term commercial play. It is a strategic investment in capability and future market positioning.

Leveraging Ireland’s Renewable Strength
Ireland’s growing renewable energy capacity presents a clear opportunity.
With increasing wind generation, there is potential to:
Convert surplus electricity into green hydrogen
Produce synthetic fuels domestically
Strengthen energy resilience and reduce reliance on imports
Our experience across wind, solar, and infrastructure delivery positions us well to contribute to this transition.
A Collaborative, Long-Term View
As outlined in Galetech’s brand principles, success is built on:
Proactive leadership
Technical expertise
Collaborative delivery
The e-fuel project reflects that mindset - working alongside industry partners, learning through delivery, and building solutions that are both practical and scalable

Looking Ahead
The Cavan facility represents an early but important step.
While wind energy will remain central to Galetech’s operations, initiatives like this demonstrate how the company is:
Expanding its role in the energy ecosystem
Responding to evolving client and industry needs
Supporting the transition to a lower-carbon future
Progress in renewable energy is built over time.
This project is not about immediate scale - it is about developing the knowledge, capability, and partnerships required to deliver meaningful impact in the years ahead.
