Improving Access for Everyone at Laragh Community Park

At Carrickallen Wind Farm, we are proud to support projects that leave a lasting legacy in the communities surrounding the wind farm. One such project is the new pathway and viewing area at Laragh Community Park, delivered by Laragh Sports Partnership (LSP).

Established in 2012, LSP has transformed the park into a vibrant community space, with facilities including a natural playing pitch, children’s playground, walking trails, outdoor classroom, biodiversity area and picnic facilities.

The latest addition — a safe and accessible pathway around the sports field — is another important step in making the park welcoming for everyone.

Making Laragh Community Park More Accessible

The new pathway has improved access for older members of the community, people with reduced mobility, parents with buggies and children, making it easier and safer to attend sporting events and community activities.

It has also created a more comfortable viewing area for spectators while enhancing safety around the pitch.

Today, the improved facilities benefit more than 485 regular users, including local schoolchildren, members of the Laragh Positive Age Group, the Happy Feet Walkers and countless families who use the park each week.

The project has strengthened the park’s role as a shared community space where people of all ages and abilities can come together.

A Project Making a Real Difference

The greatest measure of the project's success has been the positive feedback from local people. Grandparents can comfortably watch their grandchildren play, families with young children can enjoy the park in a safer environment, and those with mobility challenges now have easier access to everything the park has to offer.

These improvements demonstrate how investment in accessible community facilities can make a meaningful difference to everyday life.

Supporting the Community Over the Years

This latest project builds on Carrickallen Wind Farm’s ongoing support for Laragh Community Park.

In previous years, the wind farm also funded the purchase and installation of outdoor exercise and activity equipment within the community park, located close to the completed children’s playground.

The equipment is specifically aimed at people aged 50 and over, providing older members of the community with accessible opportunities to stay active, exercise and enjoy the park’s facilities.

Together with the new accessible pathway and viewing area, these improvements are helping Laragh Community Park become an even more inclusive and welcoming space for people of all ages and abilities.
