The Portarlington Lions Club has held a successful Tractor Run event this week with the help of local sponsorship, including €2,000 from Galetech Group
The event took place in aid of full educational assessments for Local Children
The roads of Portarlington were painted with a host of colourful tractors, old and new, last Sunday afternoon (1st March). It came after the hard work of the Portarlington Lions Club after it organised its annual Tractor Run. This year’s event was held in aid of the psychological and full educational assessments for a local child. To help build the buzz for the event, there was a children’s tractor circuit added to the event with each child receiving a prize on the day. In addition, an auction was held afterwards in the Railway Bar.

A vital component in the success of this event was the local sponsorship, including €2,000 from Irish renewable energy, Galetech Group. As part of the proposed 79MW Cushina Windfarm project, Galetech is committed to benefitting the local communities and stakeholders. The proposed 11-turbine windfarm project located in the townlands of Clonsast and Raheenakeeran, Co Offaly, is aimed to generate enough renewable energy to power 85,700 homes and a Community Benefit Fund worth €460,000 each year.
Deirdre Keegan, Galetach Group Community Liaison Officer, said:
“Galetech Group is very proud to be part of the Portarlington Tractor Run this year. The event has raised some important funding for a local child in need of these psychological and education assessments.
“We are working towards a sustainable future, and this extends beyond the renewable energy we generate. Galetech strives to operate in a responsible and sustainable manner for the benefit of all of our stakeholders, including those living close to our wind farm.”
