This year, Galetech Group celebrates 25 years in business - a journey that began at a kitchen table in County Cavan and has grown into a team of 150 experts delivering renewable energy solutions across Ireland and beyond. From our first onshore wind farm to our latest ventures, one thing has never changed: our commitment to building a greener, more sustainable future through innovation, collaboration, and responsible development.

Recently, our founding director, Darren Sherry, and managing director, Herman Busschots, spoke with ReNews about what’s next for Galetech - from strengthening our renewable foundations to pioneering e-fuels for sustainable aviation. Their insights underscored the same principles that have guided us for 25 years: vision, responsibility, and commitment.

Strengthening Our Renewable Foundations

We are advancing around 750 MW of onshore wind projects in Kilkenny, Laois, and Tipperary, alongside 250 MW in northern England, where policy changes have opened new opportunities.

Our approach is deliberate: we only progress projects that have a genuine chance of being built. This means land agreements signed, surveys complete, and a clear pathway to delivery. By doing so, we protect resources, maintain trust, and ensure that each development adds real value to the communities we serve. This strategy also fuels growth across our specialist divisions - Optinergy, providing operations and maintenance services, and EnergyPro, delivering expert asset management.

Our e-Fuels Vision

The aviation industry faces one of the toughest decarbonisation challenges. The EU’s sustainable aviation fuel targets are already in motion, and we believe e-fuels will be a cornerstone of meeting them.

We are taking the first steps now:

  • A 1 MW pilot project in County Cavan is in development.

  • Plans to scale to 30–50 MW, then into the hundreds of MW.

  • Ambitions for gigawatt-scale projects both in Ireland and internationally.

By combining large-scale wind and solar with electrolysis to produce green hydrogen, and then synthesising it with captured CO₂, we can create sustainable hydrocarbons for aviation fuel. This is not just an exciting opportunity - it’s a necessity for meaningful emissions reduction in the sector.

Growth with Purpose

For us, this is about more than megawatts or market share. It’s about shaping a future where clean energy powers every journey - doing so with integrity, foresight, and a collaborative spirit.
