The Cootehill Community First Response (CFR) began its life-changing mission in partnership with the National Ambulance Service (NAS) in 2023. This dedicated group of 10 community volunteers provides critical emergency care, including CPR, stroke intervention, choking relief, and care for falls, chest pain, and bleeding. In just three short months, they responded to over 100 callouts, making a significant impact on the health and safety of the Cootehill community.
The NAS identified a significant gap in emergency first response services in Cootehill due to the area’s unique demographic. CFR volunteers are often the first on the scene, delivering life-saving care while an ambulance is en route. This service has proven invaluable, but as a start-up organization, Cootehill CFR faced significant challenges in acquiring the necessary operational and training equipment to sustain and expand its work.
With the support of Carrickallen wind farm community fund, the group has acquired a training equipment, a defibrillator, PPE and other medical supplies.
Brian Conlon, a member of the group aptly said:
"To date, over 100 callouts have been undertaken by the CFR service providing emergency first response care for patients while awaiting the arrival of the ambulance. As volunteers, we are fully aware of our responsibilities and are proud of the role each of us plays. This motivates us to make this project a success. Cootehill Community First Response is not just about saving lives—it’s about strengthening the ties that bind us as a community. Together, we can ensure that no call for help goes unanswered."
In addition to this he added " We are very thankful for the support from the wind farm in allowing the group to further support the community"
