  • Behind the Meter Energy Optimisation | Galetech Group

Reduce energy costs and improve operational efficiency with behind-the-meter energy optimisation. We help commercial and industrial businesses optimise on-site energy use, lower demand charges, and maximise asset performance. Construction Building Construction Civils Support Services Construction Operation & Maintenance Asset Management Inspection & Compliance Home > Services (Item) > Behind the Meter Energy Optimisation Our Behind the Meter Energy Solutions support commercial and industrial customers in managing energy directly at site level. We design, operate, and optimise on-site renewable generation, battery storage, and load management solutions to reduce energy costs, increase resilience, and improve energy efficiency. These solutions operate independently of, or alongside, grid export arrangements and are tailored to each site’s operational profile. By aligning generation, storage, and demand, we help customers maximise the value of their energy assets while reducing exposure to market volatility and grid constraints. Our team combines technical, commercial, and operational expertise to deliver practical, scalable behind-the-meter solutions that support decarbonisation goals while maintaining reliability and cost control. Energy Support Services Hybrid Wind & Solar Auto-Production Project Galetech delivered Ireland’s largest co-located, behind-the-meter hybrid renewable energy project, integrating wind and solar generation to directly supply energy to a private client’s operations. The project was led through feasibility, planning, procurement, and construction, culminating in a fully operational renewable energy system designed to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions while improving energy resilience for the client. Case Study Renewable Support Services Auto-Production Wind Turbine Project Galetech provided project management and technical advisory services for the installation of a 3 MW Enercon E-101 wind turbine at the Janssen Pharmaceutical facility in Ringaskiddy, Cork. The project was developed as a behind-the-meter renewable energy solution, enabling the client to generate clean electricity directly on-site to support its manufacturing operations. Surplus electricity generated by the turbine is exported to the grid through a REFIT PPA structure, providing additional commercial value. Case Study Renewable Support Services Welsh Water - Welsh Water (BTM Wind Programme) Galetech Energy Services (GES) is providing client-side development and planning management support for Welsh Water’s behind-the-meter (BTM) wind generation programme across multiple operational sites in Wales. Case Study Support Services Large-Scale Wind Auto-Production Project Galetech delivered Ireland’s first large-scale wind auto-production project, designed to provide renewable electricity directly to a major industrial client in County Cork. The project integrates two Enercon E-82 wind turbines operating under a behind-the-meter structure, enabling the client to significantly reduce exposure to electricity price volatility while lowering carbon emissions. The development was led through feasibility, planning, funding support, procurement, and full project execution. Case Study Project Gallery Filter by Tags Lidar Measurements Met Mast Installation Services Nacelle Mounted Lidar Installation Permanent Lidar Solar Monitoring Systems FAQs 1. What does “behind the meter” mean? Behind the meter refers to energy generation, storage, and consumption that occurs on the customer’s side of the electricity meter. These systems supply energy directly to a site rather than exporting it to the grid, allowing customers to reduce energy costs, manage demand, and improve resilience. 2. What types of customers are suitable for behind-the-meter solutions? Behind-the-meter solutions are suited to commercial and industrial customers with significant or variable energy demand, including manufacturing sites, data centres, logistics facilities, and large commercial buildings. They can also support customers seeking improved energy resilience or reduced exposure to grid constraints. 3. Do behind-the-meter systems export electricity to the grid? Not necessarily. Many behind-the-meter systems are designed to minimise or avoid export altogether. Where export is required or beneficial, systems can be configured to operate in both behind-the-meter and export modes, subject to regulatory and grid requirements. 4. How do behind-the-meter solutions reduce energy costs? Cost savings are achieved by maximising on-site renewable generation, optimising battery storage usage, and managing demand to reduce peak consumption and network charges. This reduces reliance on grid electricity and helps stabilise long-term energy costs. 5. Do you provide ongoing operation and optimisation? Yes. We provide ongoing monitoring, operational support, and optimisation to ensure behind-the-meter systems continue to perform as intended. This includes performance tracking, system adjustments, and support as site energy needs evolve. How does Site Operations Management differ from Operations & Maintenance (O&M)? Site Operations Management provides independent operational oversight and coordination, rather than hands-on maintenance delivery. We act as the central interface between owners, operators, and contractors, ensuring issues, outages, and site activities are managed effectively and in line with performance, safety, and compliance requirements. 2. Do you replace the site operator or O&M contractor? No. We work alongside existing operators and O&M providers. Our role is to coordinate, monitor, and provide governance over site activities, ensuring clear communication, accountability, and timely resolution of operational issues without duplicating contractor responsibilities. 3. What types of assets do you support? We provide Site Operations Management for operational wind, solar, and battery storage assets. Our approach is scalable, supporting single sites or multi-asset portfolios across different technologies and market environments. 4. How does this service improve asset performance? By maintaining continuous visibility of site activities and issues, we reduce response times, improve coordination, and ensure operational risks are managed proactively. This helps protect availability, minimise downtime, and support consistent long-term performance. 5. Is Site Operations Management suitable for investors and lenders? Yes. This service provides operational assurance and clear governance, which is particularly valuable for investors and lenders seeking confidence that assets are being operated safely, compliantly, and in line with contractual and performance expectations. Collectively, the turbines are expected to generate enough clean, renewable electricity to supply too around 54,600 houses each year. A temporary 80-metre meteorological mast has recently been installed on site to gather data on wind speed, temperature and humidity and air pressure. This information will help estimate the potential energy output and design of the wind farm. FuturEnergy Ireland is also developing a wind farm on the same ridge in parallel with Quarry Tree Wind Farm. This adjacent project is known as Brackley Wind Farm located approximately 5km north-west of Ballyconnell and 3.5km south-east of Swanlinbar in Co. Cavan.
