  • Effective DSO Management - Avoiding €75k Generator Hire | Galetech Group

Strategic DSO outage management avoiding €75k in generator hire through coordinated grid planning and operational strategy. Effective DSO Management - Avoiding €75k Generator Hire A 25-day DSO outage (in three blocks) was scheduled for a nearby asset connection. With no back-feed planned, the wind farm would need generators to maintain house loads. Client N/A Capacity N/A Location N/A Architect N/A Challenge Keep the wind farm energised without generation during a prolonged outage, avoid costly generator hire, and align with DSO safety/operational constraints. Solution Negotiated a reduced outage period and an innovative “tail-feed” arrangement with the DSO. Implemented engineering controls to prevent export while supplying sufficient power for substation/turbine house loads. Coordinated DSO to bring forward routine station maintenance to maximise outage value. Outcome No generators required; ~€75,000 cost avoided. The approach was formalised with the DSO for use in future outages.
